Suburban critical incident team (SCIT) manhunt in the attempted homicide of two police officers.

On Friday, November 6, 2020, at 0236hrs, the Waukesha County Suburban Critical Incident Team (SCIT) responded to a crime scene in the City of Delafield to search for a suspect in the attempted homicide of two police officers. The complexity of the operation was challenging due to the diverse areas adjacent to the crime scene, which included an interstate highway, a large commercial business complex, some residential neighborhoods, and dense wooded areas.

The search area was so immense that five tactical teams were required to conduct a thorough grid search to locate the suspect, who had fled on foot. These teams included: SCIT, the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department, Tactical Enforcement Unit, the City of Waukesha Police Department’s SWAT team, Milwaukee Police Department Tactical Enforcement Unit, and the Milwaukee FBI SWAT Team.

Intrepid Response enables safety and security during large airshow.

The Wings Over Houston Airshow, October 29-30, 2022, is one of the top-attended annual air shows in

the United States. The event requires a robust safety and emergency response plan to address medical

emergencies, missing persons, potential security threats, and other incidents.

Colin Rizzo, the Director of Emergency Management for the Port of Houston Authority, regularly volunteers as staff during the event. Colin describes how the Intrepid Response mobile software platform provided an invaluable comprehensive event management solution throughout all stages of the event life-cycle.

Special enforcement team alerted to a Murder case in which suspect fled the scene.

Lieutenant Cory Leeper of the Special Enforcement Team was alerted to an emergency call regarding a

murder case in which the leading suspect had fled from the scene. Commander Leeper promptly put

Intrepid Response software solution into action — utilizing the Locate map for persistent and dynamic location tracking, Activate to mobilize his team, and Connect for critical information exchange.

Patrol officers utilizing Intrepid Response immediately initiated lock downs, and within seconds, SWAT and other tactical teams were swiftly activate to the secured area. After arriving, Lieutenant Leeper noticed an airship that had been deployed to survey the scene. The airship detected a heat signature emanating from one of the homes, indicating the potential presence of the suspect.

Emergency events lead Minnesota State Patrol to incorporate intrepid response into daily operational planning.

During May and June of 2020, the Minnesota State Patrol responded to multiple calls of extreme civil unrest and sustained riotous behavior within the Minneapolis, St. Paul area. Many departments across the nation were responding to civil unrest during this time, however this situation was unique for Minnesota, because these events lead to the deployment of every trooper in the Minneapolis, St. Paul area. This meant all patrol stations across the entire state were vacated and every trooper responded to the metro area, for the first time in the agency’s history.

Afterwards, the Minnesota State Patrol had the opportunity to evaluate their response and noticed several areas that needed improvement if a situation like this occurred again. They lacked a real-time view of State Patrol resources, leading to confusion and miscommunications about team locations.

Sarasota Police Department Enhances Emergency Response with Intrepid Response.

The Sarasota Police Department, with 192 sworn officers and 60+ civilian staff, faced a critical coordination challenge when responding to a high-risk situation involving an armed subject positioned near a school and busy shopping center. The subject had called 911 stating his intention to end his life as soon as police arrived, creating an imminent threat to public safety.

Lieutenant Dwayne Shellhammer, the Emergency Response Commander, needed to simultaneously lock down the school, secure a perimeter around the shopping area, and coordinate multiple specialized units including SWAT, drone operators, and negotiators.

Fire department, enhances major event safety and creates a force multiplier using Intrepid Response for FirstNet.

Managing public safety for large-scale events in a major metropolitan area is a complex task. The Fire Chief, overseeing Law Enforcement, Special Events, and Homeland Security for one of the nation’s largest fire departments, faced a significant challenge: providing seamless coordination and situational awareness for over 10,000 annual events, including a premier sporting event with national media coverage.

With responsibilities spanning stadiums, arenas, and high-traffic entertainment districts, the department required a user-friendly solution capable of delivering a real-time common operating picture. Additionally, interoperability with law enforcement agencies was critical to execute unified incident command during high-profile events.

How Anoka County is Unifying Multijurisdictional Response with a Common Operating Platform.

Seamless collaboration is critical in public safety, especially in places like Anoka County, Minnesota, where a single incident may require coordinated action from multiple law enforcement agencies. For Lieutenant Nick Steiger, a police officer with the city of Fridley, enhancing that coordination has become a mission. His goal is a countywide deployment of Intrepid Response, a frontline public safety mission support solution that enables communication, collaboration and coordination among special units and across agencies.

Steiger saw the challenges of managing large-scale deployments. Communication gaps, outdated CAD capabilities and a lack of real-time location tracking hampered officer safety and operational effectiveness. Realizing commanders needed a better way to push information to officers in the field, Steiger proposed demoing Intrepid Response for Anoka County’s mutual aid mobile field force team, North Command Mobile Field Force (NCMFF), consisting of officers from 11 police agencies.
