Lieutenant John McKinney  |  Jaxon King, Google |  and More to Come ...

Lieutenant John (Cody) McKinney has been serving with the Coconut Creek Police Department for 12 years. He is currently assigned as the Criminal Investigations Section (CIS) Lieutenant and is responsible for leading the Detective Bureau, the Special Enforcement Team, and Internal Affairs in all aspects of investigations from homicides to narcotics to property crimes. He also concurrently serves as the Executive Officer on the SWAT Team where he is responsible for running the team’s tactical operations and developing the budget, training, and SOPs for the team. He has been with the SWAT Team for 8 years and worked in various roles to include operator, sniper, Assistant Team Leader, and Team Leader. Prior to being the CIS Lieutenant, he worked as the Sergeant for SET, the Sergeant for CIS, a Patrol Sergeant, and a Detective in SET. In addition to attending and teaching numerous advanced trainings in tactical operations and investigative techniques, Lieutenant McKinney earned a Master of Science in National Security Affairs – Counterterrorism from Nova Southeastern (2018) and an a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Colby College (2011).
